  • Ongwe Minerals (TSXV:OGW) discovered a 5-km-long, gold-in-soil anomaly on its 151,800-hectare Omatjete project in Namibia.
  • Omatjete is located only 55 km from WIA Gold’s geologically analogous 2.93-million-ounce Kokoseb gold deposit.
  • The junior mining company is active on three projects in Namibia’s Damara gold belt.

Junior miner Ongwe Minerals (TSXV:OGW) discovered a 5-km-long, gold-in-soil anomaly about 17 km from its Manga discovery at its Omatjete project in Namibia. The project is located only 55 km from WIA Gold’s geologically analogous 2.93-million-ounce Kokoseb gold deposit.

The discovery, now known as Nguni, follows a recent regional soil sampling program on the 151,800-hectare project focused on the Okondeka Fault Zone, which hosts numerous deposits, as well as several prospective structural and geological settings worth follow-up sampling.

Highlight samples reached as high as 730 parts per billion (ppb) gold, delineating multi-kilometer trends above 100 ppb gold, with infill sampling and geological mapping ongoing and the anomaly remaining open to the north, east and west.

Ongwe is also planning to undertake a drone magnetic survey to better define structural controls underpinning the anomaly, as well as exploration activities across the 17 km unexplored corridor between the Manga and Nguni discoveries to potentially uncover a larger mineralized system.

Leadership commentary

“The newly discovered Nguni prospect is the biggest gold-in-soil anomaly I have seen in Namibia since first embarking on exploration here in 2008,” Dave Underwood, Chief Executive Officer of Ongwe Minerals, said in a statement. “This surface gold discovery is just 17 km from our Manga gold discovery at the Omatjete gold project and 55 km from Wia Gold’s 2.93-million-ounce Kokoseb gold project, all associated with the same structural trend. The tenor of the gold anomaly is also very impressive with twenty-eight samples assaying above 300 ppb gold and eight above 500 ppb gold so far. Although the grade of the soil anomaly doesn’t necessarily indicate the grade in the rocks below, it is promising that the gold numbers are similar to those at Kokoseb, when the discovery was announced in September 2021. The mineralization is located in a textbook structural setting, where a regional scale fault jogs around brittle granitic intrusions creating space and hydrothermal fluid pathways.”

“We are currently doing infill mapping and sampling to accurately define the mineralization footprint for the drill program to start in H2 2026. The Nguni prospect is currently open to the north, east and west and we look forward to chasing the mineralization to its full extent,” Underwood added. “This discovery validates our faith in the Omatjete gold project, and we look forward to developing the Nguni and Manga targets while continuing the grassroots sampling over the rest of this exciting and rapidly emerging gold district.”

About Ongwe Minerals

Ongwe Minerals is a junior mining company active on three projects in Namibia’s Damara gold belt. Besides Omatjete, these are highlighted by the Khorixas project, which hosts a 12 km x 6 km orogenic gold system supported by high-grade rock chips.

The company’s leadership team, previously with Osino Resources, which sold to Shanjin International for C$368 million, has a long history of making and advancing gold discoveries in Namibia, including Osino’s Twin Hills and Eureka deposits, as well as the development and sale of Auryx Gold’s Otjikoto gold deposit, now in production, sold to B2Gold for C$180 million.

Ongwe Minerals stock (TSXV:OGW) is up by 12.50 per cent on the news trading at C$1.44 as of 9:56 am ET. The stock has added 6.67 per cent since inception in February 2026.
