Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) has expanded its Verizon Family ecosystem with the launch of the new Gizmo Watch 4, a kid-focused smartwatch designed to help parents stay connected with their children while offering enhanced safety, communication, and location-tracking capabilities.

Available starting today, the Gizmo Watch 4 introduces several new features aimed at providing parents and guardians with greater peace of mind. Among the most notable additions are Watch Removal Detection alerts, which notify guardians if the device is taken off, as well as enhanced real-time location insights. Verizon also plans to add real-time severe weather notifications in a future update.

The latest smartwatch is intended to give children more independence while allowing parents to maintain oversight through Verizon’s family safety platform. Unlike smartphones, the Gizmo Watch 4 is designed without social media apps or unrestricted web browsing, helping families limit exposure to online distractions and potential risks.

Focus on safety

Safety remains at the center of the Gizmo Watch 4 experience. Parents can monitor their child’s location through the Verizon Family app and create custom safe zones that trigger notifications when a child enters or leaves designated areas. The device also includes a School Mode, which helps reduce distractions during class hours.

To further enhance security, guardians can manage approved contacts and block communications from unknown individuals. The watch supports up to 40 trusted contacts, ensuring children can stay in touch with family members and other approved connections while limiting interactions with strangers.

Improved hardware and performance

Verizon has also upgraded the watch’s hardware. The Gizmo Watch 4 features a 4.06-cm scratch-resistant display and a new water-resistant design built to withstand everyday use by active children.

The device is powered by a faster processor and offers a battery life of up to three days on a single charge, according to Verizon. It also supports high-quality video calling over Verizon’s network, providing another option for families to stay connected throughout the day.

Deeper Verizon family integration

A major component of the launch is the watch’s integration with the Verizon Family app, which serves as a central hub for device management. Through the app, parents can track location data, manage trusted contacts, establish safety zones, and access additional wellness and safety features.

Beyond communication and safety tools, the smartwatch includes several child-friendly features designed to encourage healthy habits and organization, including step tracking, to-do lists, and educational activities.

Promotional offers

To promote the launch, Verizon said customers can receive the Gizmo Watch 4 at no cost with the activation of a new line. The company is also waiving activation fees for eligible Verizon Loyalty customers and offering additional benefits through its Verizon Shine rewards program.

With the Gizmo Watch 4, Verizon is continuing to target families seeking an alternative to smartphones for younger children, combining connectivity, location services, and parental controls in a wearable device designed specifically for kids. The launch further strengthens Verizon’s broader family-focused ecosystem as demand grows for technology that balances children’s independence with parental oversight.
