The asset, run by subsidiary, Empresa Minera Paitití S.A., will be ramped up to commercial production in tandem with an expansion to produce copper cathodes, as well as an upgrade to the adsorption, desorption and recovery section of the legacy gold and silver circuit.

Mining and milling will take place at the plant for the first time since 2020, when operations were suspended because of the depletion of mineral reserves.

Don Mario joins Orvana’s producing OroValle mine in Spain, which is expected to generate 34,000-37,000 ounces of gold and 2.7-3 million pounds of copper in fiscal 2026.

The company posted a profitable fiscal Q3 2026, earning US$18.5 million in net income, ending the quarter with US$32.5 million in cash and equivalents on its balance sheet to pursue further growth initiatives.

Leadership commentary

“The first doré bar from EMIPA’s oxides confirms that the metallurgical performance of the expanded Don Mario plant is in line with design and engineering assumptions. We remain focused on safely increasing throughput and optimizing plant performance as operations ramp up,” Juan Gavidia, Chief Executive Officer of Orvana Minerals, said in Tuesday’s news release.
