Homeland Nickel (TSXV:SHL) signed a binding offtake agreement with Westwin Elements tied to its Red Flat nickel project in Oregon.
This article is a journalistic opinion piece which has been written based on independent research. It is intended to inform investors and should not be taken as a recommendation or financial advice.
The 2,015-acre project, located 15 kilometres southeast of Gold Beach, hosts a historical resource of 18.8 million tons grading 0.84% nickel, including 10.4 million tons measured and indicated grading 0.88% nickel, plus a significant uncertified cobalt component.
The exclusive agreement, following a memorandum of understanding signed in May, will provide an estimated 20,000 tons of nickel concentrate per year for Westwin’s planned Class-1 refinery, which will be the only one of its kind in the United States.
According to Tuesday’s news release, Homeland intends to complete a resource estimate and preliminary economic analysis (PEA) at Red Flat, with PEA results to determine whether or not Westwin funds a bankable feasibility study (BFS) for the project.
Leadership commentary
“We still have a long way to go before we are mining at Red Flat. Our updated resource estimate is underway and does not require more permitting or drilling to complete. The same goes for the PEA. We expect to provide Westwin with these reports in Q1 or Q2 of 2027. Westwin will have 90 days to review the reports and start their BFS,” Steve Balch, President and Chief Executive Officer of Homeland Nickel, said in a statement.
“This agreement is an important step towards establishing a secure, fully domestic nickel supply chain,” added Kaleigh Long, Founder and CEO of Westwin Elements. “By connecting future nickel production from Homeland’s Red Flat property in Oregon with Westwin’s US refining capacity, we can turn American resources into high-purity nickel that our nation’s manufacturers and defense industrial base depend on.”
