BWX Technologies: The Transportable Nuclear Power Plant

The nuclear energy renaissance is entering its next stage. BWX Technologies announced that its BANR microreactor technology has been selected for a planned transportable nuclear power plant in New Brunswick, Canada. The project is being commissioned by Prodigy Clean Energy, along with the local groups Pabineau and Eel River Bar First Nation. The pilot project is designed for a capacity of up to 50 MW and is scheduled to begin operations in the early 2030s. The local government has already signed an agreement to purchase the electricity generated. BWX’s gas-cooled high-temperature reactor will be prefabricated in Ontario and shipped to the destination, which is expected to reduce on-site construction time to approximately 18 months. This contract serves as a reference project for potential future series production.

On the capital market, BWX Technologies’ stock is currently viewed largely positively. Most analysts recommend the stock as a “Buy”, while four experts rate it a “Hold”. The average 12-month price target is USD 217.69, which represents upside potential of just over 60% relative to the current price level.

Bank of America recently lowered its price target for BWX from USD 250 to USD 210 but maintained its “Buy” recommendation. Analysts point to the stock’s currently high valuation and a price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of just under 36. At the same time, they highlight the financial targets presented for 2030, which exceeded market expectations. The experts identify the broader expansion of nuclear power, rising energy demand driven by artificial intelligence, and the market for defense fuels as key growth drivers. Other institutions are also confident. Guggenheim and Jefferies initiated coverage with “Buy” recommendations and price targets of USD 192 and USD 181, respectively. Wells Fargo upgraded its rating to “Hold” with a price target of USD 170.

Zefiro Methane: Turning Environmental Cleanup into a Multi-Million-Dollar Business

The energy transition has an often-overlooked dimension. Millions of orphaned and abandoned oil and gas wells across the US can leak methane and pose risks to soil and groundwater. Zefiro Methane has built its business around cleaning up these environmental liabilities. Its latest project in Cuyahoga Valley National Park demonstrates just how tangible this business is. There, the company permanently plugged two additional wells. According to the National Park Service, at least 47 US national parks are home to approximately 1,800 oil and gas wells.

But Zefiro has long been more than just an environmental story. In fiscal year 2025/26, revenue rose by 31.1% to a record USD 42.5 million. Gross profit rose by 66% to USD 12.4 million, and the margin improved to 29.2%. Adjusted EBITDA reached a positive USD 3.8 million, up from a USD 4 million loss in the prior year. The net loss decreased by 67.5% to USD 3.5 million.

And the order pipeline continues to grow. A major government contract worth USD 19.6 million is underway in Ohio. In addition, there is another contract worth USD 11.5 million running through June 2029, as well as three projects in Ohio and Pennsylvania with a total value of approximately USD 1.9 million. The acquisition of the Viking Well Service fleet added five additional drilling rigs and, according to the company, approximately USD 10 million in additional annual revenue capacity.

New demand is also emerging from energy and data centre projects, where sites must first be cleared of legacy oil and gas wells. GBC Research sees significant potential and recommends the stock as a “Buy” with a price target of CAD 2.12. Zefiro shares are currently trading at around CAD 0.59.

TeraWulf: 1 Gigawatt to Feed the AI Appetite

Hardly any other megatrend is currently transforming the electricity market as much as artificial intelligence. As a result, TeraWulf plans to expand its data centre capacity to serve this rapidly growing market. The company announced it has expanded its existing power purchase agreement with Kentucky Power, a subsidiary of American Electric Power, for the so-called “Muskie Data Campus” in eastern Kentucky. The contractually guaranteed electricity volume for the site will thus double from the original 500 MW to 1 GW.

With this move, the company is responding to strong customer interest in the market. Demand for high-performance data centres specifically designed for computationally intensive tasks such as high-performance computing and AI models is growing steadily. To meet the needs of future customers more flexibly and quickly, not only is the contracted volume being increased, but the project timeline is also being accelerated. The delivery of the second 500-MW tranche will be brought forward by one year to 2029. The first development phase is scheduled to begin in 2028 as planned and will be ramped up gradually.

To secure the project, the regional energy provider is investing in the necessary infrastructure. Plans call for the construction of a new 765/345-kV substation to connect the site directly to the regional power transmission grid. TeraWulf acquired the Muskie site in May 2026 specifically for this purpose and is already looking ahead. In the long term, the company is exploring whether the campus could even be designed for a total capacity of up to 2 GW, provided that the infrastructural and contractual requirements allow for it.

The expansion in Kentucky follows TeraWulf’s overall strategy of developing large-scale projects in close coordination with local utilities. The aim is to avoid financial risks for existing electricity customers. Just last August, the relevant regulatory authority approved a similar agreement for another TeraWulf site in Hawesville. This collaborative approach is also likely to be advantageous in the pending regulatory approval processes for the Muskie site.

BWX Technologies is working on a new generation of mobile nuclear reactors, while TeraWulf is securing massive electricity capacity for the AI boom. Zefiro Methane is addressing a different, but equally important, aspect of the transformation by remediating the legacy of fossil fuels. Plugging orphaned wells reduces potential methane emissions and helps secure contaminated sites.
