Alpha Esports (ALPA) will change its name to Alpha Metaverse Technologies reflecting its new focus on Web 3.0.

The company expects the name change to take effect on or about January 12, 2022.

It recently announced that its augmented reality division, Paradise City Gaming, has begun to develop AR experiences using Niantic’s software toolkit, Lightship, which facilitates the use of segmented semantics, mapping and multiplayer functionality.

It plans to apply such technology, once developed, to its GamerzArcade platform with a target launch date of spring 2022.

It will also offer its GamerzArena as a gaming-as-a-service platform allowing brands, sports teams and other organizations to integrate its tournament engine to accelerate the adoption of metaverse-powered experiences.

“We’ve long believed gaming was well-positioned to lead adoption and monetization of Web 3.0 technologies,” stated Brian Wilneff, Alpha’s CEO. “This name change to Alpha Metaverse Technologies reflects the company’s commitment around the metaverse and its ability to respond to evolving consumer opportunities.”

Alpha Esports is a technology company focused on emerging industries in esports, mobile gaming and ecommerce.

Alpha Esports (ALPA) closed up by 23.73 per cent trading at $0.365 per share.
