BlackBerry (TSX:BB) and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NDAQ:AMD) are collaborating on next generation robotic systems with real-time capabilities in robotics-focused hardware.

The Waterloo, Ontario-based tech firm announced the team-up at the Embedded World exhibition and conference at Nuremburg, Germany, stating that it aims to revolutionize the robotics industry with enhanced real-time performance, precision, reliability, and scalability.

The team-up intends to provide an integrated software and hardware platform to ensure that critical robotic tasks are executed with the same level of precision and responsiveness.

The platform will combine BlackBerry QNX expertise in real-time foundational software solutions with the AMD Kria K26 SOM, integrating Arm and field-programmable gate array (FPGA) circuit programmable logic-based architecture.

“With the QNX Software Development Platform, customers can start development quickly on the AMD Kria KR260 Starter Kit and seamlessly scale to other higher-performance AMD platforms as their needs evolve,” Chetan Khona, AMD’s senior director of industrial, vision, healthcare and sciences markets said in a news release. “Combining the industry-leading strengths of AMD and QNX will provide a foundation platform that opens new doors for innovation and takes the future of robotics technology well beyond the constraints experienced until now.”

“An integrated solution by BlackBerry QNX through our collaboration with AMD will provide an integrated software-hardware foundation offering real-time performance, low latency and determinism, to ensure that critical robotic tasks are executed with the same level of precision and responsiveness every single time,” Grant Courville, VP Product and Strategy at BlackBerry QNX, added. “These are crucial attributes for industries carrying out finely tuned operations, such as the fast-growing industries of autonomous mobile robots and surgical robotics. Together with AMD, we are committed to driving technological advancements that address some of these most complex challenges and transform the future of the robotics industry.”

Last week, BlackBerry reported Q4 fiscal year 2024 results highlighting US$173 million in revenue, which topped US$151 million a year ago and beat analyst estimates of US$154.8 million.

BlackBerry Ltd. provides intelligent security software and services to enterprises and governments around the world and secures more than 500 million endpoints including more than 235 million vehicles.

BlackBerry stock last traded at C$3.91 per share and is 4.82 per cent higher over the past month, but is down 36.11 per cent since this time last year.
