Volkswagen’s CARIAD has selected BlackBerry’s (BB) QNX for its VW.OS software platform.

As part of Volkswagen’s New Auto strategy, CARIAD is developing a unified software platform comprised of VW.OS, the Volkswagen Cloud VW.AC and a scalable end-to-end electronic architecture to be available by the middle of the decade.

BlackBerry will license its QNX technology to CARIAD – including the QNX OS for Safety 2.2 – for integration into VW.OS, specifically in the stack for advanced driver assistance and automated driving.

QNX OS for Safety is a fully POSIX-compliant, ISO 26262 ASIL D-certified, open standards-based operating system to build safety-critical systems. With a pre-certified, scalable microkernel RTOS, the solution is a catalyst for moving projects from research to production.

BlackBerry will also provide professional engineering and consulting services for system-level integration, performance optimization and solution validation.

QNX technology is part of production programs with 45 OEMs including over 215M vehicles worldwide.

“From chip to cloud, BlackBerry QNX is trusted by the world’s leading automotive companies for our leading-edge embedded software solutions that deliver safety, reliability and security,” said John Wall, SVP and Head of BlackBerry Technology Solutions.

BlackBerry provides intelligent security software and services to enterprises and governments.

BlackBerry (BB) stock is up by 3.13 per cent trading at $7.59 per share as of 12:12 pm EST.
