Bombardier (TSX:BBD) marked a major milestone in aviation history today as it celebrated the entry-into-service of its flagship Global 8000 business jet at a special event held at the company’s state-of-the-art Aircraft Assembly Centre. The occasion brought together employees, government officials, suppliers, media, and distinguished guests to witness the debut of the world’s fastest civil aircraft since the legendary Concorde.
The highlight of the event came when Patrick Dovigi, proud buyer of the first Global 8000, accepted the keys to his brand-new private jet. Adding to the excitement, Canadian rock icon Tom Cochrane, presented by Rolling Stone Canada, delivered a powerful live performance that perfectly matched the aircraft’s groundbreaking achievement.
Earlier this year, the Global 8000 completed its rigorous flight-test program and set a new benchmark in civil aviation by reaching a top speed of Mach 0.95, officially making it the fastest civil aircraft since the Concorde. The jet also boasts an industry-leading cabin altitude of just 2,691 feet at 41,000 feet cruising altitude, ensuring unparalleled passenger comfort. In November, Bombardier secured Transport Canada Type Certification, with FAA and EASA approvals expected soon.
The Global 8000 is the only true four-zone business jet offering an impressive range of 8,000 nautical miles, enabling nonstop travel between more city pairs than ever before. Despite its long-range capabilities, the aircraft maintains remarkable agility, with takeoff and landing performance comparable to that of a light jet. Its advanced wing design, featuring leading-edge slats, allows access to up to 30 per cent more airports—over 2,000 destinations—than its closest competitor.
“Every innovation and every detail of the Global 8000 reflects the hard work, creativity and dedication of our teams,” Bombardier’s president and CEO, Éric Martel, said in a news release. “This revolutionary aircraft is redefining the business aviation landscape with its innovative design, signature smooth ride, unmatched performance and a promise fulfilled to our customers.”
