Ceylon Graphite (CYL) has appointed Janaka Rathnayake and Dr H M Ranjith Premasiri to newly created roles within the company.

Janaka is a mining engineer and mine manager with extensive experience that has made him an expert in graphite mining. He has been appointed as the General Manager of Operations for Sarcon Development, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ceylon Graphite.

In his new role, Janaka will be responsible for the company’s exploration and mining-related business in Sri Lanka.

Dr Premasiri is one of Sri Lanka’s leading geologists, and a Professor in the Department of Earth Resources at Moratuwa University. He has been appointed as Ceylon Graphite’s Senior Consultant Geologist, a role in which he will lead Sarcon’s team of geologists.

The duties of both these men will play a role in how Ceylon Graphite and its subsidiaries expands their business footprint in Sri Lanka in the near future.

Ceylon Graphite’s CEO, Bharat Parashar, commented on the two new additions to the company, and their roles moving forward.

“Both gentlemen are well-known and respected practitioners in the Graphite space in Sri Lanka, and will play a major role as the company ramps up its business activities,” he said.

“Janaka will focus on production and Ranjith on the next sites that we should develop,” he added.

In other news, the company has announced that a proposed private placement it announced in January 2020 did not proceed.

Ceylon Graphite is up 2.13 per cent and trading for $0.24 per share, as of 12:05pm EST.
