Fusion Fuel and Ballard (BLDP) have commissioned their H2Evora green hydrogen plant in Portugal.

The demonstration project, comprised of 15 Fusion HEVO solar-to-hydrogen units, will produce 15 tons of green hydrogen per year while eliminating 135 tons of CO2 emissions.

The facility includes a 200 kW FCwave fuel cell module supplied by Ballard, which is used to convert green hydrogen into electricity, enabling Fusion to sell power into Portugal’s electric grid.

The companies intend to demonstrate how hydrogen can serve as a flexible energy storage vector and off-grid power supply.

H2Evora is Portugal’s first solar-to-green hydrogen facility and first fully integrated hydrogen-to-power demonstration project.

“We can now look forward to H2Evora providing emissions-free power to the grid for many years to come, a demonstration of the flexibility of green hydrogen and our HEVO-Solar solution, particularly considering the protracted energy crisis roiling European markets,” stated Frederico Figueira de Chaves, Fusion’s Co-Head and CFO.

“Ballard is proud to be a part of a project that will reduce emissions and demonstrate the important role hydrogen plays in our global decarbonization goals,” added Søren Østergaard Hansen, General Manager of Marine and Stationary at Ballard Europe. “The commissioning of the H2Evora facility also marks our first FCwave fuel cell module in service for a stationary application.”

Fusion Fuel develops disruptive clean hydrogen solutions, including its modular, integrated solar-to-hydrogen generator.

Ballard Power Systems produces fuel cells that enable the adoption of electric vehicles.

Ballard (BLDP) is up by 12.25 per cent, trading at $7.79 per share as of 10:20 am ET.
