Junior miner Critical One Energy (CSE:CRTL) intersected bonanza-grade antimony during recent drilling at its Howells Lake project located about 120 kilometres west of Ontario’s Ring of Fire.
Critical One encountered two new mineralized zones near the historic Howells Lake East Antimony Zone, highlighted by 8 m of 42.2 per cent Sb, including 4 m of 70.2 per cent Sb in massive stibnite – approaching pure stibnite, which comes in at 71.7 per cent Sb – as well as a deeper zone yielding 7.3 m of 1.62 per cent Sb in drillhole HWL-2026-006.
The company believes the discovery opens a new potential revenue stream shipping ore to military and industrial clients across North America, with antimony predominantly imported into the continent.
According to AZoMining, the critical metal is used as a flame retardant, to manufacture alloys essential to lithium-ion batteries, ammunition and power lines, and as a semi-conductor in electronics production, including transistors, quantum devices and infrared detectors.
All eight drillholes to date have hit visible antimony-bearing stibnite mineralization on the 24,887-hectare project. Further assays are pending, with meaningful gold exploration potential across the land package to be fully explored.
Leadership commentary
“Hole 6 is the proof of concept we needed,” Duane Parnham, Founder, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Critical One Energy, said in Tuesday’s news release. “It demonstrates that our Howells Lake Project has the grade and purity to be a strategically meaningful North American antimony source. In our view, the Howells Lake Project is proving itself to be one of the most impressive high-grade antimony deposits in North America, and this stands among the most significant Canadian mineral discoveries since Hemlo Gold, with more still to be uncovered.”
“I also wish to extend our appreciation for the strong support of our valued partner, EFN, for the Howells Lake Project. Eabametoong First Nation’s spiritual guidance, commitment and partnership play a vital role in advancing this important initiative, and we are grateful for their continued backing and collaboration,” Parnham added.
