Sienna Resources (TSXV:SIE), a junior lithium and uranium miner, has added the 50,440-acre Atomic uranium project in Saskatchewan’s Athabasca Basin to its prospective portfolio.

Atomic borders Orano, a multi-national nuclear fuel company, and CanAlaska Uranium (TSXV:CVV), which holds one of the largest portfolios in the Athabasca Basin at more than 500,000 hectares.

The Athabasca houses the highest-grade uranium deposits in the world, including Cameco’s Cigar Lake, the world’s highest-grade uranium mine, with 113.8 million pounds of triuranium octoxide (U3O8) at 17.03 per cent U3O8. The Fraser Institute ranked Saskatchewan as the third most-attractive mining jurisdiction in 2022.

The news follows Sienna’s acquisition of the 10,845-acre Dragon uranium project bordering Cameco and the Uranium Town project bordering Denison Mines, both in the Athabasca Basin.

Sienna is also active in the lithium space, including the recently expanded Elko lithium project in Nevada, which directly borders Surge Battery Metals’ Nevada North lithium project, home to the highest-grade lithium-clay deposit in the United States. Sienna is also a large landholder in Clayton Valley, Nevada, with three projects near Tesla’s Gigafactory and Albemarle‘s Silver Peak deposit, the only producing lithium deposit in the country.

Management insights

“Sienna has taken a swift entry into the uranium space,” Jason Gigliotti, president of Sienna Resources, said in a statement. “This new Atomic Uranium project is a district-size project in the top uranium address on Earth, the Athabasca Basin. This now gives Sienna shareholders exposure to three separate uranium projects. Management is currently formulating plans to commence operations on these new uranium projects. Sienna is coming into a very robust news flow cycle. Management’s goal is to build shareholder value by acquiring and working on projects with the highest potential in the most mining-friendly jurisdictions. We plan to be very active in the uranium and lithium space and have the cash on hand to execute this game plan.”
