Lithium Africa (TSXV: LAF) (FSE: 6MQ) (OTCQB: LTAFF) intends to usher its Springbok project in Northern Cape Province, South Africa, to spodumene concentrate production by the end of 2027.
The company plans to process the Norrabees I mine‘s existing stockpile of pegmatite material, alongside freshly mined pegmatite, through an on-site dense media separation (DMS) plant, for which approvals are being sought. Cash flow from the DMS plant would help to fund exploration across the broader Sringbok land package.

Norrabees I holds a 5-hectare mining permit within the project’s district-scale 1,675 km² prospecting right, with ongoing drilling returning highlights of 7.5 m at 1.97% lithium oxide from 18.5 m downhole, as well as 4 m at 2.25% lithium oxide from 2 m downhole. A maiden resource estimate is on track for the first half of 2027, to be followed by a preliminary economic assessment.
According to Wednesday’s news release, the company is involved in preliminary, non-binding financing discussions with numerous parties, spanning potential offtake, vendor financing and project equity, with more concrete details expected in the first half of 2027.
Leadership commentary
“Self-funding exploration through small-scale mining is a uniquely African way to explore for lithium, and it is how we intend to unlock the Springbok district,” Thomas Benson, Chief Executive Officer of Lithium Africa, said in a statement. “Lithium projects that can target production in 2027 are few and far between, and we believe Springbok is one of them: a permitted mine, with feeder material ready on surface. Our plan is designed to deliver real, non-dilutive value for shareholders, while advancing sustainable economic development in the Northern Cape.”
