TSX gains as Canada posts its fastest growth in three years. Tariffs escalate, Bitcoin remains near highs, and commodity markets stay mixed.

Markets are edging higher this morning as stronger-than-expected Canadian economic growth helps offset concerns surrounding the escalating trade dispute between Canada and the United States. The TSX is up 0.26%, while the TSX Venture Index is advancing 0.54%, supported by continued strength in resource and growth-oriented shares.

In the U.S., the Dow is up 0.27%, while the Nasdaq is effectively flat, up just 0.01%, as investors digest strong AI-related earnings momentum and prepare for additional policy signals from Jackson Hole. Bitcoin remains elevated despite a modest pullback, while commodity markets are mixed. Oil is lower, though elevated energy prices continue to support Alberta’s fiscal outlook, while gold and copper are moving modestly higher.
