TSX falls as UBS rises on record revenue, SK Hynix sinks despite a profit surge, First Quantum earnings climb, oil jumps and Bitcoin gains.

The TSX is down 0.40%, while the TSX Venture Index is lower by 0.30%, as Canadian markets pull back amid renewed pressure from Asia’s semiconductor selloff and fresh geopolitical tension in the Middle East. U.S. markets are also weaker, with the Dow down more than 1%, while the Nasdaq is barely positive as traders weigh chip-stock weakness against selective buying in technology. London’s FTSE 100 is little changed but slightly lower.

Commodities are mixed as oil jumps sharply on renewed fighting and supply-risk concerns, while gold and copper both slip. Bitcoin is higher in Canadian-dollar terms, gaining nearly 1%, even as broader risk sentiment remains cautious. Investors are also watching the Federal Reserve, which is expected to keep rates unchanged for now despite persistent inflation pressures and renewed volatility in energy markets.
