Wildfires are forcing Patriot Battery Metals (TSXV:PMET) to temporarily pause operations on its Corvette Property in Quebec.

The Vancouver-based mineral explorer’s project is in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region of Quebec.

More than 80 wildfires are burning across Quebec, with 21 classified as “out of control” by the provincial government, forcing thousands of people to leave their homes.

Patriot Battery Metals has temporarily demobilized all of its employees on the property until the situation improves.

Fires have small impact on Corvette Property

Thus far, the Corvette Property has not been significantly impacted by the fires. However, helicopters capable of dropping water assigned to protect the property have been requisitioned by the province.

Until those helicopters are released, the company will be unable to conduct drilling activities on the property.

Wildfires have also impacted some of the work at the assay laboratory, however the company expects that impact to be minimal.

The company now has permission to convert a seasonal winter snow road, to an all-weather exploration road.

The new passage allows drilling to be conducted through the months of October, November and December when fog in the region negatively impacts the transportation by helicopters.

Executives are examining how quickly this road can be upgraded to facilitate a longer drilling season to make up for this lost time caused by wildfire bans.

Current exploration started in May and includes a drill and surface exploration program.

Patriot Battery Metals (PMET) is down 3.04 percent, trading at $15.95 at 10:03 a.m. ET.
