Premier Health Group (PHGI) has announced the launch of its direct-to-consumer CloudMD app.

CloudMD works by connecting patients to physicians for a real-time consultation via on-demand video conferencing, and the app can be accessed using a smartphone, tablet or computer.

“We are excited to be launching our telemedicine service directly to consumers, enabling quality access to care for patients throughout British Columbia,” said Premier Health CEO, Dr. Essam Hamza.

“Telemedicine prevents lapses in medical care and costly visits to the emergency department, enables team-based care across different health care providers and saves travel costs and inconveniences to patients.”

CloudMD will be initially launched to over 5 million patients in the British Columbia area, and the service will be available beyond clinical hours, including the weekends.

With electronic charts created for each individual patient, health care providers will quickly be able to understand their past and current health statuses, enabling more efficient care.

“With the latest Coronavirus outbreak, heading to a doctor’s office or emergency room not only increases demand on already stretched resources, but also increases your chances of exposure,” Dr. Hamza continued.

“A telemedicine visit can be used effectively to get timely needed care and to reduce the spread of infection. Being at the forefront of today’s dynamic healthcare environment, we are paving the way to connect patients with the care they need when they need it.”

Premier Health shares are currently up 4.88 per cent to C$0.43, with a market cap of C$34.73 million.
