By the ounce
At the time of writing on Wednesday, the price of gold was US$4,168.47, according to data from ADVFN, up from US$4,151.42 per ounce in our October 14th report, representing a 1.82% gain year-over-year.
The metal remains tangled in broad market concerns about high inflation, with September CPI coming in 0.6% higher from last month and 3.7% higher from last year, and the US 10-year treasury yield holding strong above 5% as investors scramble for every last basis point of yield they can get their hands on.
A US interest rate hike, predicted by the CME FedWatch Tool for the December meeting, holds the promise of improving gold’s relative value in the marketplace.
This week in gold
Looking beyond Jon’s favored gold stocks, a handful of honorable mentions made tangible progress over the past week.
Bravada Gold (TSXV: BVA) (OTCQB: BGAVF) filed a technical report on the preliminary economic assessment for its Wind Mountain project in Nevada, USA, whose output is set to average 44,400 ounces of gold equivalent per year over an 11.2-year mine life. The company complements its flagship development with royalty and exploration-stage assets along Nevada’s top gold trends.
Cambria Gold Mines (TSXV:CAMB) uncovered widespread mineralization up to 794 grams per ton (g/t) gold over 1 metre during ongoing infill drilling at its Silver Coin Deposit within its Premier Gold Project in British Columbia. The potential new feed source de-risks the company’s plan to restart a 2,500-ton-per-day mill on its property, which would graduate operations into revenue generation.
Our closer, Wescan Goldfields (TSXV:WGF), discovered visible gold at its Munro Lake Project in Saskatchewan, located only 7 kilometres from the province’s only producing gold operation, setting an encouraging tone about pending phase-1 drilling assays. The news further differentiates the company’s resource-bearing and past-producing gold portfolio.
