Canada’s main stock index was flat on Monday, building on gains from the previous session after a weak US jobs report lowered the likelihood of the Federal Reserve raising interest rates in the near term.
US equities kicked off the week on a stronger note, led by gains in the tech sector. Several Monday morning M&A announcements helped lift market sentiment, while oil prices eased and the yield curve steepened slightly in the aftermath of Friday’s employment numbers.

The Canadian dollar traded for 70.11 cents US compared to 70.17 cents US on Friday.
US crude futures traded US$1.90 lower at US$89.21 a barrel, and the Brent contract lost US$2.06 to US$100.20 a barrel.
The price of gold was up US$3.00 to US$4,142.94.
In world markets, the Nikkei was up 1,637.40 points to ¥69,946.86, the Hang Seng was up 68.05 points to HK$24,040.34, the FTSE was up 35.99 points to ₤10,497.94, and the DAX was up 23.01 points to €25,254.21.
