Canada’s main stock index moved higher on Tuesday as investors looked ahead to the possibility of US-Iran discussions during this week’s United Nations meetings. However, weaker commodity prices limited the market’s gains. Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, is expected to attend the United Nations General Assembly alongside several other global leaders later this week.
Investor focus will also shift to the upcoming summit in Washington, DC, where President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Key issues expected to dominate the discussions include artificial intelligence, the conflict involving Iran, trade tariffs, and access to rare earth minerals.
