Canada’s top stock index closed lower on Monday as oil prices retreated from the strong gains earned in the previous week. Investors also turned their attention to upcoming inflation data for signals on the future direction of interest rates. Statistics Canada reported that the Consumer Price Index increased 3.1% year over year in September, up from 3.0% in August. On a seasonally adjusted basis, the index rose 0.4% from the previous month.
US equities moved higher, driven by a rebound in technology stocks following last week’s selloff among companies tied to the artificial intelligence sector. CoreWeave (NASDAQ:CRWV), a key player in the neocloud market, recovered 0.73% after falling more than 25% last week thanks to concerns about its debt levels, marking its steepest weekly decline since November 2025. Shares of Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) and Micron (NASDAQ:MU) also advanced, 2% and 3%, respectively.
