The strongest performers on the TSX Venture Exchange have been recognized by its annual “Top 50” list.

The 2023 TSX Venture 50 gathers the strongest performance on the TSX Venture Exchange over the last year.

The list gathers the top 10 companies listed on TSX Venture Exchange in each of five major industry sectors – mining, energy and energy services, clean technology and life sciences, diversified industries, and technology – based on a ranking formula with equal weighting given to market cap growth, trading volume amount and share price appreciation.

Here is a list of who scored as the top company in each category:

Clean technology and life sciences:

First Hydrogen Corp. (TSXV:FHYD) is focused on zero-emission vehicles, green hydrogen production and distribution and supercritical carbon dioxide extractor systems. The company is designing and building hydrogen-fuel-cell-powered light commercial demonstrator vehicles under two agreements with AVL Powertrain, the world’s largest independent company for the development, simulation and testing of powertrain systems, and Ballard Power Systems (TSX:BLDP).

Diversified industries:

The Westaim Corp. (TSXV:WED) is a Canadian investment company specializing in providing long-term capital to businesses operating primarily within the global financial services industry. The company invests, directly and indirectly, through acquisitions, joint ventures, and other arrangements, with the objective of providing its shareholders with capital appreciation and real wealth preservation.

Mining:

SIGMA Lithium Corp. (TSXV:SGML) is working to power the next generation of electric vehicle batteries with environmentally sustainable and high-purity lithium.

Sigma Lithium is currently commissioning its wholly owned Grota do Cirilo Project in Brazil. Phase 1 of the project is  set to produce 270,000 tonnes annually.

Energy:

Southern Energy Corp. (TSXV:SOU) is a natural gas exploration and production company, that acquires and develops conventional natural gas and light oil resources in the southeast Gulf States of Mississippi, Louisiana, and East Texas.

Technology:

Kraken Robotics Inc. (TSXV:PNG) is a marine technology company that produces and sells software-centric sensors, subsea batteries, and underwater robotic systems. It provides high-resolution 3D acoustic imaging solutions and services.

RevoluGROUP Canada Inc. (TSXV:REVO) is a multi-vertical Fintech Neobank generating revenue via its RevoluPAY mobile EU PSD2, FINTRAC & USA MSB II licensed open-banking app & Visa Card.

From lithium to hydrogen to solar power, the renewable energy transition is the clear theme for this year’s list of top performers. According to the TSX, in the energy sector alone, Venture 50 companies saw 89 per cent growth last year.
