Markets were split today as a rotation out of AI names weighed on the Nasdaq while the TSX surged. The TSX climbed 2.28% and the TSX Venture Index gained 2.48%, while the Nasdaq dropped 2.64% as AI stocks missed out on the post-election rally. The Dow slipped 0.17% and the FTSE 100 eased 0.13%.

Oil rose 1.52% to 89.95 even as retreating crude prices earlier in the week gave central banks more options, with the Bank of England hiking rates for the first time in three years. Gold jumped 1.30% and natural gas gained 1.23%, while copper slipped 0.14% and Bitcoin fell 1.89% to just above C$110,000. At home, Canada’s trade surplus with the U.S. widened to $12.3 billion despite new tariffs, though the services PMI showed the sector shrinking for a fifth straight month.
