Anthropic is reportedly targeting a November IPO near $2 trillion as weak US jobs data lifted stocks toward record highs.

Markets were mixed today as a weak September jobs report calmed rattled bond markets and sent U.S. stocks toward record territory. The TSX fell 0.23% and the TSX Venture Index dropped 0.36%, while the Dow jumped 0.73% and the Nasdaq rose 1.10%. The FTSE 100 edged up 0.18%.

The U.S. added just 29,000 jobs in September as unemployment ticked up to 4.2%, a disappointing print likely to keep the Fed on hold in October even as the dollar held near a 17-month high despite falling yields. Gold rose 0.23% and copper gained 0.39%, while Bitcoin surged 2.37% to above C$123,000 as global equity funds drew inflows for a second straight week on continued AI optimism. Oil fell 3.51%.
