SpaceX Soars 10% on Earnings; Alberta Rejects Exit

Markets were mixed today as strong earnings, led by SpaceX, lifted sentiment even as U.S. indexes struggled to hold gains. The TSX rose 0.50% on a wave of positive sentiment at home after Alberta voters rejected separation from Canada, while the TSX Venture Index slipped 0.08%. The Dow fell 0.16% and the Nasdaq dipped 0.21%, while the FTSE 100 edged up 0.19%.

Oil slipped 0.61% to 97.00 and natural gas dropped 3.49%, while gold gained 0.26% and copper fell 1.11%. Bitcoin rose 0.48% to just above C$117,000, and the Loonie was little changed against the greenback. Wall Street’s strong profit reports from companies including Equifax and Hasbro helped keep the mood upbeat.
