Markets pushed higher today as stocks flirted with record territory and easing oil prices supported sentiment, even with Treasury yields lingering near multi-decade highs. The TSX gained 0.26% and the TSX Venture Index rose 0.78%, while the Dow climbed 0.45% and the Nasdaq added 0.60%. The FTSE 100 was the lone laggard, slipping 0.05%.

Oil fell 1.30% as investors looked past a bond selloff that pushed yields to a 24-year high, while gold gained 0.36% and Bitcoin rose 0.64% to above C$123,000. Copper eased 0.28%. At home, Canada’s trade surplus with the U.S. nearly doubled to $11.2 billion, while the U.S. trade deficit jumped above $100 billion in August.
