Markets held steadier today, wrapping up a volatile month on an encouraging note as fresh data showed the U.S. economy growing solidly and inflation cooling slightly. The TSX edged up 0.01% and the TSX Venture Index was similarly flat, up 0.01%, while the Nasdaq gained 0.63%; the Dow slipped 0.04% and the FTSE 100 fell 0.34%.

Oil rose 1.66% while gold and copper both eased slightly, down 0.08% and 0.18% respectively, and Bitcoin gained 0.97% to above C$119,000. The euro tested a 16-month low near $1.1310, and at home, Stelco’s layoffs are exposing a broader domino effect of tariffs rippling through Canada’s supply chain.
