TraceSafe Technology has announced that athletes and crew at the Women’s World Hockey Championship will be sporting the company’s wearable technology.
The company is partnering with TELUS to provide contact tracing and quarantine solutions at the championship, which will take place in Halifax from May 6-16, 2021. The event organizers postponed the tournament, which was originally scheduled to take place in March, because of concerns due to COVID-19.
Hockey Canada, in conjunction with the IIHF, has worked diligently with the Province of Nova Scotia and the Government of Canada to ensure a safe Women’s World Hockey Championship.
Dean McIntosh, Hockey Canada’s Vice President of Events, commented,
“Hockey Canada and the Women’s World Championship Host Committee made the health and safety of all participants their number one priority.”
He added,
“We want to ensure that the greatest women’s hockey players in the world have an opportunity to compete for a gold medal on May 16.”
Earlier this year, TraceSafe wearable technology accounted for the early detection of infections in ten players at the World Juniors Championship. The swift isolation measures made possible by early detection ensured that the rest of the tournament “bubble” was kept intact.
“Events like the Women’s World Hockey Championship and the World Juniors Championship boost local economies and lift weary spirits,” said Wayne Lloyd, TraceSafe CEO.

Teams and officials will begin an eight-day self-isolation upon their arrival in Nova Scotia.
TraceSafe technology will monitor participants during self-isolation and continue to provide safety measures throughout the tournament.
