Radioactivity measurement from 2024 exploration on Pontiac project
(Source: Showcase Minerals)
  • Showcase Minerals (CSE:SHOW) identified numerous uranium and rare earth element targets of interest during phase-I exploration on its Pontiac project in Quebec
  • Samples reach as high as 5,940 ppm uranium and 4,682.7 ppm total rare earth elements and include values for numerous other strategic minerals
  • Showcase Minerals is a Canadian mineral exploration company active on the Pontiac project in Quebec, on which it holds a 100 per cent option
  • Showcase Minerals stock has given back 88.61 per cent year-over-year

Showcase Minerals (CSE:SHOW) identified numerous uranium and rare earth element targets of interest during phase-I sampling on its Pontiac project in Quebec.

Rare Earth Elements (REE)

  • Light REE from 17.81 parts per million (ppm) to 3,584.7 ppm.
  • Heavy REE from 3.26 ppm to 1,098 ppm.
  • Total REE (TREE) from 22.3 ppm to 4,682.7 ppm.
  • Top sample, taken from a granite-schist contact zone in the southwestern property area, yielded 4,682.7 ppm TREE associated with 0.24 per cent uranium oxide (U3O8) and surface radioactivity from 12,000 counts per second (cps) to 38,000 cps.

Uranium and uranium oxide

  • Uranium from 6.6 ppm to 5,940 ppm.
  • Uranium oxide from 0.002 per cent to 0.714 per cent.

Thorium

  • Thorium (Th) from 100 ppm to 6,200 ppm (method FUS-XRF) or 6,370 ppm (method FUS-MS).

Other in-demand elements

  • Rubidium from 15 ppm to 418 ppm.
  • Zircon from 9 ppm to 2,975 ppm.
  • Niobium from 2 ppm to 552 ppm.
  • Molybdenum from 2 ppm to 714 ppm.
  • Barium from 30 ppm to 2,446 ppm.
  • Lead from 24 ppm to 4,110 ppm.
  • Top sample, taken from the X-Ray showing, returned 0.714 per cent uranium oxide, 714 ppm molybdenum and 4,110 ppm lead.

The 3,461-hectare Pontiac uranium property, located near Fort Coulange, Quebec, benefits from nearby infrastructure and a history of successful exploration. A uranium-thorium deposit discovered in 1955, hosted in pegmatite and granite, yielded 0.11 per cent to 1 per cent uranium oxide and up to 16 per cent thorium oxide.

Leadership insights

“We are excited by the results of our phase-I exploration program at the Pontiac project,” Kirk Reed, Showcase Minerals’ chief executive officer, said in a statement. “These findings not only validate the historical uranium mineralization, but also highlight the property’s significant rare earth element potential. The discovery of additional strategic minerals, including niobium, molybdenum and rubidium, underscores the polymetallic nature of this asset and its importance to the critical minerals supply chain.”

“As global demand for clean energy technologies and strategic materials continues to grow, the Pontiac project’s potential as a multi-commodity exploration target aligns with our commitment to advancing projects that support a sustainable future. We look forward to building on these results in phase-II,” Reed added.
