Titan Mining (TSX:TI) remains on course for graphite concentrate production at its Empire State mines in New York, which would make it the United States’ only natural flake graphite producer, as well as a key node in the domestic electric vehicle and battery supply chains.

The company’s demonstration facility will produce micronized and high-purity natural flake graphite from its flagship Kilbourne deposit adjacent to the Empire State mines, with eyes on substantiating commercial-scale recovery grades, refining the flowsheet and generating offtake samples for potential North American and allied customers in the defense, energy and industrial sectors.

The news follows new Chinese export restrictions on artificial graphite and blended anode materials under MOFCOM Announcement No. 58 (2025), consolidating the country’s leadership position in the critical mineral, representing more than 80 per cent of global graphite production while highlighting the pressing need to secure reliable domestic supply.

Titan’s 40,000-ton-per-year commercial graphite facility is positioned to supply half of current US natural graphite demand, backed by a letter of intent for up to US$120 million in financing from the US Export-Import Bank under its Make More in America initiative. Other funding opportunities are in the pipeline in partnership with the US Department of War and US Department of Energy.

Management commentary

“China’s decision to tighten graphite exports underscores the importance of having a secure domestic supply of natural graphite,” Rita Adiani, Titan Mining’s president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. “Natural graphite touches every strategic sector—from defense to energy to AI data centers—and the US currently produces none of it. Titan is changing that by re-establishing natural flake graphite production and high-purity graphite processing here at home to support the technologies and systems that keep America strong.”
