Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) introduced its latest lineup of devices powered by the new M5 chip, including refreshed models of the iPad Pro, 14-inch MacBook Pro, and Apple Vision Pro. The announcement was made via press releases rather than a traditional launch event, continuing a trend the company has followed in recent years.

M5 chip: A unified upgrade across devices

The M5 chip, built on Apple’s third-generation 3-nanometer process, features a 10-core CPU and GPU, each GPU core equipped with a Neural Accelerator.

Apple claims the chip delivers up to 3.5× faster AI performance compared to the M4, and up to 6× faster than the M1 generation. The chip also introduces a 16-core Neural Engine and boosts memory bandwidth to 153GB/s.

iPad Pro: Thinner design, enhanced AI capabilities

The new iPad Pro is available in 11-inch and 13-inch models, starting at US$999. It features the M5 chip, a Tandem OLED Ultra Retina XDR display, and connectivity upgrades including Wi-Fi 7 via the N1 chip and faster cellular performance through the C1X modem.

The tablet supports up to 16GB of memory and 2TB of storage and includes improvements in AI-driven tasks such as video upscaling and 3D rendering.

MacBook Pro: Performance boost without design changes

The 14-inch MacBook Pro, starting at US$1,599, also receives the M5 chip. While the external design remains unchanged, internal upgrades include faster SSD performance, improved graphics (up to 1.6× faster), and extended battery life up to 24 hours. The laptop supports up to 32GB of unified memory and up to 4TB of storage.

Vision Pro: Enhanced comfort and spatial features

Apple’s mixed reality headset, Vision Pro, now features the M5 chip and a new Dual Knit Band for improved comfort. The device supports faster AI-powered workflows, improved display rendering, and longer battery life (up to 2.5 hours of general use). It also runs visionOS 26, which introduces new spatial experiences and Apple Immersive content, including interactive environments and live sports.

Availability

All three devices are available for pre-order now and will be released in stores starting Wednesday, October 22.
