Draganfly (CSE:DPRO) achieved successful integration of Smith Myers’ ARTEMIS Mobile Phone Detection and Location Systems (MPDLS) into its UAS platforms for deployment by Search and Rescue Sweden, one of Europe’s premier SAR organizations.

The collaboration introduces a cutting-edge aerial capability designed to enhance missing-person recoveries, wilderness rescues, and critical public-safety missions. SAR Sweden will utilize Draganfly’s APEX and Commander 3XL drones outfitted with ARTEMIS payloads, which are specifically engineered for the SAR market to deliver cost-effective, high-performance support.

ARTEMIS: A game-changer for SAR operations?

Smith Myers’ ARTEMIS MPDLS offers a maximum range of 35 kilometers and supports up to 48 cellular bands, enabling precise detection and location of mobile devices in challenging environments. Its modular design allows seamless integration across Draganfly’s multi-mission platforms, with payloads ranging from 0.52 kg to 10 kg for varying mission requirements.

The APEX drone provides rapid deployment and reconnaissance with lightweight payloads, while the Commander 3XL accommodates heavier sensors for extended missions requiring superior endurance and performance.

Joint testing validates operational readiness

Recent joint flight tests conducted by Draganfly, Smith Myers, and SAR Sweden at Draganfly’s flight facility confirmed the mechanical and software integration of ARTEMIS payloads, stable flight performance under harsh conditions, and end-to-end SAR workflows including detection, localization, mapping, and ground-team coordination.

The integrated solution meets or exceeds European SAR standards for reliability, detection range, and location accuracy—critical in light of recent regulatory changes limiting certain aerial platforms for public-safety missions.

“After our joint testing with Draganfly and Smith Myers, we are confident these systems will strengthen how we respond to missing-person and wilderness rescue operations across Sweden,” Richard Öesterlindh, head of development, SAR Sweden said in a news release. “The performance, particularly in challenging weather, exceeded expectations, and the flexibility offered by multiple payload and drone configurations will be a major asset to our teams.”

A scalable solution for public safety

This partnership delivers a versatile, compliant UAV solution that significantly reduces mission costs compared to traditional helicopter-based operations. Beyond SAR Sweden, Smith Myers payloads will be supported across Draganfly’s full UAV lineup, expanding availability for police, military, fire services, and emergency-response organizations seeking proven, mission-ready technology.
