Bombardier (TSX:BBD.A) delivered its 200th Challenger 3500 jet to Piero Ferrari, Vice Chairman of Ferrari, marking a key milestone less than four years into service for one of business aviation’s most popular super-midsize jets.
Ferrari will use the aircraft for business engagements and to travel to Formula One races, benefitting from a maximum range of 6,297 kilometres, a max speed of 882 km/h, the lowest direct operating costs in its class and what Bombardier describes on its official website as “the most technologically advanced cabin in its class,” as highlighted by Nuage zero-gravity seats and the industry’s first voice-controlled cabin.
According to Monday’s news release, the Challenger 3500 has outsold all business jets in the medium and heavy categories since 2023, reflecting rising demand across a broad customer base – including recent commitments from fleet operators BOND, NetJets and VistaJet – building upon the jet’s “winning legacy defined by reliability, performance and customer-focused innovation.”
Bombardier reported net income of US$53 million in Q1 2026, up by 20 per cent year-over-year, increasing its backlog beyond the US$20 billion mark, with Q2 results slated to hit the wire on July 30th.
Leadership commentary
“Delivering the 200th Challenger 3500 jet is a defining milestone for Bombardier and a powerful testament to the aircraft’s remarkable success in the super-midsize segment,” David Murray, Executive Vice President of Manufacturing, IT and the Bombardier Operational Excellence System, said in a statement. “We are especially proud to mark this milestone with Mr. Piero Ferrari and thank him for the confidence he has placed in Bombardier. This achievement speaks to the exceptional dedication of our employees, the confidence our customers continue to place in Bombardier and the strength of an aircraft that delivers outstanding performance, impressive efficiency and an elevated cabin experience. The Challenger 3500 jet has quickly established itself as a category leader and we look forward to building on that momentum.”
