  • Wildfires across Canada are highlighting the growing need for AI-powered climate intelligence, creating opportunities for companies that help predict and manage disaster risk
  • AISIX Solutions (TSXV:AISX) uses AI and wildfire modelling tools to serve insurers, governments, and businesses. The stock is up 33 per cent year-to-date but down 33 per cent over the past year, making it a highly speculative micro-cap opportunity
  • Verisk Analytics (NASDAQ:VRSK) is the established leader in catastrophe modelling and insurance data, offering lower risk and steady growth potential, though with less upside than smaller players
  • Planet Labs (NYSE:PL) combines satellite imagery and AI analytics for climate monitoring and disaster intelligence. Shares are up 11 per cent year-to-date and 230 per cent over the past year, making it one of the stronger performers in the sector

Three stocks using tech to track climate disasters

As wildfires continue to spread across parts of Canada, the growing economic impact of climate-related disasters is becoming impossible for insurers, governments, businesses, and investors to ignore. From wildfire prediction and catastrophe modelling to satellite-powered environmental monitoring, artificial intelligence is increasingly being deployed to help forecast risks before they become costly disasters.

For investors, that trend has created a niche but increasingly relevant category of stocks focused on climate intelligence and disaster prediction. While established leaders dominate the space, several smaller innovators are attempting to carve out opportunities with AI-driven solutions. Here are three companies worth watching.

This article is a journalistic opinion piece that has been written based on independent research. It is intended to inform investors and should not be taken as a recommendation or financial advice.

A tiny speculative bet on climate intelligence

Among the smallest names in the sector is AISIX Solutions Inc. (TSXV:AISX), a Canadian climate-risk technology company specializing in wildfire intelligence and predictive environmental analytics. The company develops AI-powered models designed to help insurers, governments, financial institutions, and businesses assess and mitigate wildfire risks. Its offerings include wildfire risk scoring, catastrophe modelling, climate-risk datasets, and predictive analytics tools aimed at supporting underwriting and risk management decisions.

The investment thesis is relatively straightforward: as wildfire activity becomes more frequent and more destructive, organizations will need increasingly sophisticated data to understand their exposure. AISIX positions itself as a provider of that information through proprietary AI and analytics platforms. The company highlights millions of simulated fire models, extensive historical wildfire data, and long-range wildfire projections as key differentiators.

From a stock perspective, AISIX has delivered a mixed performance. Shares are up approximately 30 per cent since the beginning of the year, yet remain down roughly the same amount compared with this time last year. Recent announcements have included insurance-sector contracts, pilot projects, and ongoing efforts to expand commercialisation of its wildfire intelligence solutions.

(Aisix Solutions Inc. stock chart – Jan. 2026 to July 2026.)

However, investors should recognize that AISIX is a very speculative micro-cap stock, not a conventional low-risk investment. The company recently worked through delayed financial filings and a Management Cease Trade Order that was later revoked after required filings were completed. While the issue was ultimately resolved, it serves as a reminder of the operational risks that often accompany companies at this stage of development.

For aggressive investors willing to embrace significant risk, AISIX may offer exposure to a growing climate-risk market. For conservative investors, the stock’s small size, limited operating history, and financing needs may justify caution.

The established leader

While AISIX represents a speculative approach to the disaster-prediction theme, Verisk Analytics (NASDAQ:VRSK) offers exposure through a far more mature business model.

Verisk is widely regarded as the dominant player in insurance data and catastrophe modelling. The company owns and operates catastrophe-risk businesses used by insurers around the world to model hurricanes, wildfires, floods, and other natural disasters. Its analytics help customers better understand risk, price insurance policies, and manage exposure to catastrophic events.

Unlike many smaller climate-tech firms, Verisk is highly profitable and deeply embedded within the global insurance industry. Its products have become essential infrastructure for insurers, reinsurers, and risk managers, giving the company a strong competitive moat and recurring revenue streams.

The stock’s recent performance reflects both its stability and its relative maturity. Shares are down roughly 10 per cent since the start of the year and down approximately 33 per cent compared with a year ago, though they have gained about 12 per cent during the past three months.

(Verisk Analytics Inc. stock chart – Jan. 2026 to July 2026.)

For investors, Verisk’s appeal lies less in explosive upside and more in predictable execution. While it is unlikely to deliver the dramatic gains that speculative micro-caps sometimes achieve, it also carries substantially lower business risk.

Investment profile: Established compounder rather than speculation.

AI, and climate monitoring

Sitting somewhere between the speculative nature of AISIX and the stability of Verisk is Planet Labs (NYSE:PL).

Planet Labs operates one of the world’s largest fleets of Earth-observation satellites, collecting imagery and data on a near-daily basis across the globe. The company combines satellite imagery with AI-powered analytics to help users monitor environmental conditions, infrastructure, agriculture, land use, and disaster events.

Climate monitoring and environmental risk assessment are among its most important use cases. Governments, corporations, and organizations can use Planet’s data to track wildfire development, assess damage from natural disasters, monitor drought conditions, and evaluate broader climate-related risks. The growing importance of environmental intelligence has helped support investor interest in the company.

The company recently made a move to enhance its observational capabilities with the launch of its Pelican-11 satellite.

Unlike AISIX, Planet Labs is significantly larger and better capitalized. However, it remains an early-stage growth company and has not yet achieved consistent profitability.

Investors have rewarded the stock recently. Shares are up approximately 16 per cent year to date and an eye-catching 230 per cent over the past 12 months, dramatically outperforming both AISIX and many traditional technology names.

(Planet Labs stock chart – Jan. 2026 to July 2026.)

Investment profile: Higher risk, but much larger and better funded than AISIX.

Know before you go

Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming an essential tool for understanding and predicting natural disasters. Whether through wildfire modelling, catastrophe-risk analytics, or satellite-powered environmental monitoring, companies operating in this space are helping governments, insurers, and businesses make more informed decisions in an increasingly uncertain climate environment.

AISIX Solutions offers a high-risk, high-reward micro-cap opportunity focused on wildfire intelligence. Verisk Analytics provides exposure through an established industry leader with a proven business model. Planet Labs offers investors a growth-oriented approach that combines AI with one of the world’s most extensive Earth-observation networks.

As always, investors should look beyond headlines and recent share-price performance. The most successful long-term investments often come from rigorous due diligence, careful evaluation of financial strength, and a clear understanding of the risks involved. In a rapidly evolving sector like climate intelligence, staying informed about emerging technologies and news-making companies can help ensure portfolios remain as current, resilient, and forward-looking as the world they are investing in.
