With commodities benefiting from a powerful combination of geopolitical uncertainty, economic growth, and the global push toward electrification and renewable energy, investors are increasingly searching for mining companies capable of delivering both near-term catalysts and long-term value creation.

One company that continues to attract attention is AbraSilver Resource Corp. (TSX:ABRA), a roughly C$2 billion market-cap explorer and developer whose flagship Diablillos Project in northwestern Argentina is rapidly evolving into one of the more compelling precious metals stories in the sector.

The company’s 79-square-kilometre Diablillos property hosts significant silver, gold, and copper mineralization and is already supported by a completed Definitive Feasibility Study, placing the project closer to development than many exploration-stage peers. Recent drilling activity, however, suggests the upside story may be far from over.

New discovery potential emerging at Cerro Viejo

Earlier this month, AbraSilver reported encouraging assay results from its ongoing Phase VI drill program at the newly targeted Cerro Viejo area, located approximately four kilometres north of the company’s Oculto deposit.

The results confirmed broad zones of shallow gold mineralization alongside copper mineralization at depth, reinforcing management’s belief that Cerro Viejo could represent a meaningful new discovery area within the broader Diablillos district. Highlights included 27 metres of gold mineralization beginning just 23 metres below surface and a stronger interval of 14 metres grading 1.50 g/t gold from 54 metres, while additional holes encountered copper-bearing sulphides beneath the oxide zone.

“What stands out from these results is the continuity of shallow gold mineralization, with mineralization beginning essentially at surface in several holes,” chief geologist, Dave O’Connor commented in a news release. “The copper mineralization encountered beneath the oxide zone is also consistent with the upper levels of the larger porphyry system interpreted to underlie this area. Continued drilling will help us better define the scale and potential of this emerging target.”

What is important to note here, Cerro Viejo sits outside the mineral resource and reserve base used in the project’s recently completed feasibility study, meaning successful drilling here could create opportunities to expand Diablillos beyond its current mine plan. The company has completed roughly 12,000 metres of drilling across 54 holes under its Phase VI exploration program and continues to evaluate multiple exploration targets across the district.

A track record of strong exploration results

The latest update builds on a series of impressive drill results released throughout 2026.

At the Oculto West target, AbraSilver recently reported an eye-catching intercept of 109 metres grading 221 g/t silver and 0.72 g/t gold, including 14 metres grading 580 g/t silver. Earlier drilling at the JAC zone also returned high-grade silver and gold mineralization, including 17 metres grading 432 g/t silver and 1.10 g/t gold. These results continue to demonstrate the potential for resource growth beyond the currently defined deposits.

Meanwhile, the company’s La Coipita copper-gold project in Argentina delivered its strongest drill intercept to date earlier this year, including 747.5 metres grading 0.69% copper, providing investors with exposure to an additional large-scale exploration opportunity.

Market recognition reflects decent shareholder returns

Investors have rewarded AbraSilver’s steady stream of technical and exploration achievements.

The stock has trended higher following the release of its updated Mineral Resource Estimate and associated technical report earlier this summer. Shares are up nearly 30% year-to-date and more than 130% over the past 12 months, reflecting growing confidence in both the Diablillos development story and the company’s exploration upside.

That performance also earned AbraSilver a place in the prestigious 2026 TSX30, the Toronto Stock Exchange’s annual ranking of the top-performing TSX-listed companies. Over the three-year measurement period ending June 30, 2026, the company generated dividend-adjusted share price appreciation of 904% while adding approximately C$2.2 billion in market capitalization.

“The past three years have truly been a transformative period for AbraSilver, and our team has made tremendous progress advancing Diablillos into a world-class project,” company president and CEO, John Miniotis added in a media statement. “With the Feasibility Study complete, key approvals in hand and RIGI approval secured, our focus now turns to advancing Diablillos toward a construction decision.”

Why are investors paying attention?

For mining investors, AbraSilver offers a combination that can be difficult to find in a single company.

The Diablillos Project is already supported by a feasibility study and a growing resource base, providing a pathway toward development. At the same time, ongoing exploration continues to deliver new discoveries and resource expansion opportunities that could enhance project economics and extend mine life.

As drill programs continue at Cerro Viejo, Oculto West, JAC, and other emerging targets across the district, investors will be watching closely to see whether AbraSilver can continue expanding upon what is already one of the more exciting precious-metals development stories in the market today.
