Canada’s main stock index advanced on Tuesday, driven by gains in technology and consumer stocks. Strong earnings from companies like Celestica (NYSE/TSX:CLS) and TFI International (NYSE/TSX:TFII) helped lift sentiment after both exceeded adjusted second-quarter expectations. Market participants are now looking ahead to earnings reports from several mining and energy firms, including First Quantum (TSX:FM) and Cardinal Energy (TSX:CJ), due after the bell.

Meanwhile, US stock markets were split as investors digested the latest corporate earnings results. Chipmakers remained a weak spot, with semiconductor stocks extending their recent downturn.
