Hydaway Digital (TSXV:HIDE) debuted its AI detection bot, RealityChek, on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, granting users the on-demand ability to determine if a piece of content is generated by AI.

This article is a journalistic opinion piece which has been written based on independent research. It is intended to inform investors and should not be taken as a recommendation or financial advice.

To receive a verdict, a user must simply reply to or mention @realitychek_ai, asking if a given claim, image, video or audio clip is real or fake. The app will then analyze signals such as noise, frequency, compression and pixel-level traits, responding in thread without requiring app downloads, file uploads or navigating away from X.

With the Pew Research Center finding that millions of US citizens rely on X for news, more than any other social media network, and Imagera finding that a growing percentage of content on X is now generated by AI, Hydaway’s innovation feels made for the moment, especially given the increasing difficulty of differentiating between authentic and AI-generated content and the potentially hefty costs of getting it wrong.

The RealityChek X bot is part of Hydaway’s growing solutions portfolio, including DETECT, the company’s web-based image and URL checker, as well as RealityChek’s liveness and streaming audio detection capabilities for enterprise clients.

Leadership commentary

“The damage from synthetic content happens in the feed, in real time, long before anyone thinks to visit a verification website,” Karl Kottmeier, Chief Executive Officer of Hydaway Digital, said in Thursday’s news release. “By putting RealityChek on X, we’re meeting people exactly where suspect content is created, shared and believed. Verifying a piece of content is now as simple as tagging @realitychek_ai in the conversation — no apps, no uploads, no leaving the feed — on one of the most active public platforms in the world.”
