Canadian investors returned from the Thanksgiving break to see the TSX move higher on Tuesday, supported by stable bond yields and firmer precious-metals prices. Those gains helped the Canadian market weather a broader global decline in semiconductor stocks.

Meanwhile, US equities fell as investors assessed a wave of earnings from major banks and reacted to a sharp overnight selloff in South Korea that weighed on memory-chip companies. Results from Wall Street’s banking and trading giants painted a mixed picture for the third quarter, with ongoing geopolitical conflicts, persistent inflation concerns, and uncertainty surrounding heavy AI-related spending continuing to create market volatility.
