Key Highlights

  • NurExone reported similar anti-inflammatory activity across three laboratory-made batches of naïve exosomes.
  • At the highest tested concentration, average reductions were about 88% for IL-6 and 57% for TNF-a.
  • The company said the results support ExoPTEN development and planned commercial supply via Exo-Top Inc.

NurExone Biologic Inc. (TSXV: NRX) (OTCQB: NRXBF) (FSE: J90) reported new laboratory results it says show consistent anti-inflammatory activity across three production batches of its naïve exosomes, supporting both its lead drug candidate ExoPTEN and its planned commercial exosome supply business through its U.S. subsidiary, Exo-Top Inc.

The company said the three separately produced batches showed similar and substantial anti-inflammatory activity in a lab cell model, with two inflammation-related proteins, IL-6 and TNF-a, showing average reductions of about 88% and 57%, respectively, at the highest tested concentration.

Details of the laboratory testing

NurExone said researchers evaluated three batches of its bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cell extracellular vesicles (BM-MSC EVs) using RAW 264.7 macrophages, a laboratory cell model used to study inflammatory responses.

In the experiment described by the company, the macrophages were stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to induce secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines, then treated with increasing concentrations of NurExone’s extracellular vesicles. The company said IL-6 and TNF-a levels were measured relative to an LPS-stimulated control, with dexamethasone included as a positive control.

NurExone said all three batches showed dose-dependent suppression of IL-6 and TNF-a. It also reported that while the overall dose-response patterns were similar across batches, some variability was observed, particularly for TNF-a at intermediate concentrations.

The company cautioned that these in-vitro findings do not establish clinical anti-inflammatory efficacy.

How NurExone linked the results to ExoPTEN and Exo-Top

Chief Executive Officer Dr. Lior Shaltiel said the findings are relevant to both the company’s therapeutic and commercial plans: “For ExoPTEN, these findings support the exosome component of our approach to acute spinal cord and optic nerve injuries. For Exo-Top, they provide additional evidence of product consistency as we begin manufacturing and work toward supplying naïve exosomes for applications such as skin and tissue care.”

NurExone also said the results provide additional support for its manufacturing foundation as it advances a U.S. production strategy in collaboration with Made Scientific, with a focus on scalability, consistent product characteristics and reproducible biological activity.

NurExone is a biotech company focused on developing regenerative exosome-based therapies for central nervous system injuries. The company described ExoPTEN as an investigational product candidate that has not been approved for commercial use.
