Led by Canadian soccer hero Diana Matheson and business partner Thomas Gilbert, Project 8 has announced its plans to launch a professional women’s soccer league in Canada.

The Vancouver Whitecaps and Calgary Foothills have been confirmed as the first two of the league’s founding eight teams, with six more to be confirmed in 2023.

With two major sponsors, CIBC and Air Canada, now on board, the league is set to start in 2025.

Matheson and Gilbert are hoping to make this a cross-country league and are actively engaging with markets throughout Canada to get the next six new teams.
