K9 Gold (KNC) has started diamond drilling at its flagship Stony Lake Project.

The project is located in the Exploits sub-zone of the Cape Ray-Valentine Lake structural trend in Central Newfoundland. It lies parallel to that of New Found Gold’s Queensway project, along the prolific Dog Bay Line.

The Vancouver-based mineral exploration company has planned a 5,000-metre drill program at the project.

The first drill hole is located on the Jumper’s Pond grid, targeting a highly priority anomaly from the IP survey.

Additionally, four of the five planned soil sampling grids have been completed, for a total of 2455 samples.

The soil sampling program is meant to generate geochemical coverage of portions of the property with a consistent methodology of collection and analysis.

Samples collected during the soil survey are being prepared for analysis.

“We are extremely excited to have our maiden drill program underway. Also, with the completion of the soil program on 4 of the 5 grids, especially over the newly exposed Deliverance trench, we will be better able to define our high priority drill targets,” said K9 Gold CEO Jeff Poloni.

The company owns a 100-per-cent stake in the Stony Lake Project.

The project covers 13,625 hectares and 27 kilometres of favourable trend between Sokoman’s Moosehead discovery immediately to the northeast and Marathon’s Valentine Lake deposit to the southwest.

K9 Gold is up 13.33 per cent, trading at C$0.51 at 3:06 pm ET.
