ION Energy (ION) has successfully completed the maiden exploration drilling program at its flagship project.

The company owns a 100-per-cent interest in the Baavhai Uul Lithium Salar Project in southeastern Mongolia.

The Toronto-based advanced battery management and intelligence company completed 21 core drill holes for 823.2 metres.

The company says it is encouraged by the results so far. Brine samples have been collected and initial samples submitted for analysis.

Basin targets remain open and brines intersected are shallow, while additional drilling and sampling are currently being planned.

“The company is highly encouraged by the stratigraphic lithologies and brines intersected in the maiden drilling program at Baavhai Uul and both basin targets remain open in area. These are the first of many exciting Lithium Salar targets that ION Energy is generating in Mongolia for drilling in 2021,” said ION Energy CEO Ali Haji.

ION Energy is committed to exploring and developing Mongolia’s lithium salars. ION’s flagship, 81,000-hectare Baavhai Uul lithium brine project, represents the largest and first lithium brine exploration licence award in Mongolia.

ION Energy is down 3.66 per cent, trading at C$0.40 at 12:20 pm ET.
