Engineering services and nuclear technology AtkinsRéalis Group (TSX:ATRL) announced Accenture as the latest ambassador for the Canadians for CANDU campaign.

This initiative, launched on February 28, 2024, aims to promote the deployment of CANDU nuclear technology both domestically and internationally to support net-zero emissions goals.

Accenture, known for its work across the nuclear plant lifecycle, joins a diverse group of supporters including organized labour, supply chain entities, nuclear medicine, education, and Indigenous Canadian organizations. The campaign is co-chaired by former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien and former Ontario Premier Mike Harris.

Joe St. Julian, President of Nuclear at AtkinsRéalis, expressed gratitude for Accenture’s leadership, stating in a news release, “This growing movement can position Canada as a global clean energy champion, while promoting a domestic nuclear industry that Canadians can be proud of.”

Martine Lapointe, Managing Director and Power & Utilities lead at Accenture in Canada, highlighted the importance of CANDU reactors in providing reliable, low-emission electricity and supporting economic growth. “Supporting CANDU ensures an energy strategy that addresses growing demands and meets net-zero emission goals,” she said.

CANDU technology, a Canadian innovation, is renowned for its safety, efficiency, and versatility. It supports over 89,000 jobs and contributes significantly to medical isotope production, essential for cancer treatments and medical device sterilization.

The Canadians for CANDU campaign calls on federal and provincial governments to support this homegrown nuclear technology to help Canada achieve its net-zero targets and sustain a thriving nuclear ecosystem.

AtkinsRéalis provides sustainable engineering and nuclear energy solutions across the world, including consulting, advisory and environmental services, intelligent networks and cybersecurity, design, procurement, project and construction management, operations and maintenance, decommissioning and capital.

AtkinsRéalis Group stock (TSX:ATRL) opened trading at C$72.80.
