Light AI (CBOE CA:ALGO), a healthcare technology company focused on diagnostics and wellness, has joined forces with YouTuber MrBeast for a Strep A testing donation initiative in Africa.

Jimmy Donaldson, aka MrBeast, operates the world’s largest YouTube channel, boasting over 363 million subscribers as of Tuesday, February 18. His charity-based channel, Beast Philanthropy, donates all revenue to charitable causes.

Light AI will donate artificial intelligence (AI)-powered Strep A tests in underserved regions of the continent, enhancing access to its precision diagnostic solution.

According to Tuesday’s news release, Strep A affects over 600 million people per year and can lead to rheumatic heart disease, a fatal condition costing the global economy in excess of $1 trillion annually.

Light AI’s collaboration with MrBeast is depicted in the Beast Philanthropy video, We Saved 100 Children’s Hearts in Africa, which premiered on Sunday.

The company intends to expand its technology to other conditions, including throat, eye and skin, building on its vision of an AI-enabled, cloud-based diagnostic lab alternative to costly and time-consuming standards of care.

Leadership insights

“We’re excited to partner with Light AI to help stop rheumatic heart disease at its root cause, which is Strep A. Their AI-powered technology makes early detection accessible and affordable, helping save lives in communities that need it most,” Donaldson said in a statement.

“We are honored to partner with MrBeast to address and enhance health and wellness in Africa. Strep A infects up to 600 million people annually and is the root cause of rheumatic heart disease, which causes up to 350,000 deaths annually. Light AI is tackling the root cause of a serious yet preventable disease,” added Peter Whitehead, chief executive officer of Light AI. “Light AI’s technology is simple, affordable, accessible and powerful, built to detect Strep A instantly, and its immediate detection is the answer to preventing life-threatening conditions like rheumatic heart disease and making a positive impact.”
