The TSX has enjoyed a successful week so far, reflecting continued investor optimism across several sectors. While artificial intelligence remains one of the market’s most closely watched themes, investors are also paying close attention to developments in defence technology and healthcare innovation. As a result, a number of Canadian companies have attracted significant news flow in recent weeks, giving investors fresh reasons to follow their progress.

Here are three Canadian stocks that have been generating attention lately.

A new identity in Canada’s AI sector

Artificial intelligence remains one of the most talked-about investment themes globally, and Quanta AI Inc. (TSXV: QNTA, Forum) has recently stepped further into that spotlight.

Formerly known as Datametrex AI Ltd, the company completed its corporate rebrand to Quanta AI Inc. following shareholder and regulatory approval. The company’s shares began trading under the new ticker symbol QNTA on the TSX Venture Exchange in September, marking a significant milestone in its evolution.

The rebranding aligns with the company’s dual-focus strategy. Through its South Korean subsidiary, Datametrex Korea, Quanta AI provides enterprise technology solutions that include data-centre infrastructure, private cloud services, software automation, managed services, and hyperconverged infrastructure solutions. The business has developed relationships with major global enterprises and continues to expand its recurring technology services operations.

At the same time, Quanta AI is building an intellectual property monetization division focused on acquiring, developing, licensing, and commercializing technology patents. Management’s objective is to create long-term value through strategic partnerships and licensing opportunities while maintaining exposure to enterprise technology markets.

For investors interested in smaller-cap AI-related opportunities, the name change has helped place Quanta AI back on many market watchlists as the company seeks to strengthen its identity around artificial intelligence and technology commercialization.

Growing exposure to Canada’s defence technology push

Defence has emerged as another major theme capturing investor attention in 2026, particularly as governments around the world increase investments in security, surveillance, and autonomous systems.

One Canadian company benefiting from this trend is MDA Space Ltd. (TSX: MDA, Forum), whose wholly owned subsidiary 49North recently qualified across all five streams of Canada’s Defence Drone Initiative Marketplace.

The qualification allows 49North to compete for future opportunities in areas including uncrewed systems, counter-drone technologies, secure communications, testing and training services, systems integration, and innovation projects. Notably, 49North successfully qualified in all five Canada’s Defence Drone Initiative categories, ranging from autonomous platform development to command-and-control systems and engineering services.

The milestone builds on the company’s extensive experience supporting drone-related programs across the Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Navy, and Royal Canadian Air Force. The organization has also supported intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations in challenging environments, providing real-world operational expertise in deploying and sustaining uncrewed systems.

For investors, the announcement underscores MDA Space’s growing presence beyond its traditional space and satellite businesses. As Canada’s Defence Drone Initiative aims to accelerate the development and adoption of domestic autonomous capabilities, companies with established technical expertise may find themselves well positioned to pursue future contracts and long-term growth opportunities.

Bladder cancer program advances

Healthcare and biotechnology companies can often move sharply on clinical developments, and Theralase Technologies Inc. (TSXV: TLT, Forum) has recently attracted attention following an update on its Phase II bladder cancer clinical study.

The company reported interim data from its study evaluating light-activated Ruvidar® for patients with Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG)-unresponsive non-muscle invasive bladder cancer. According to the update, 96 patients were enrolled in the study, exceeding the planned population size of 90 patients.

Among the key findings, approximately 64.5% of evaluated patients achieved a complete response at some point during treatment, while 73.1% achieved either a complete or indeterminate response. The company also reported that roughly two out of five responding patients maintained a complete response for 15 months, with a median response duration of 14.9 months.

Theralase stated that patient enrollment has been completed and that it is compiling data for regulatory submissions to Health Canada and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Marketing decisions are anticipated in 2027 if regulatory reviews proceed as expected.

Beyond bladder cancer, the company is also working to expand its oncology pipeline into additional indications, including glioblastoma, non-small cell lung cancer, and muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Management has also outlined potential future development programs involving antiviral applications.

For speculative healthcare investors, the clinical progress and upcoming regulatory milestones provide several potential catalysts to monitor over the coming year.

The bottom line

Whether the focus is artificial intelligence, defence technologies, or emerging healthcare treatments, company-specific developments continue to create opportunities and risks for investors. News-driven stocks can experience significant shifts in sentiment as new information becomes available, making it essential to look beyond the headlines and evaluate each company’s business model, competitive position, financial condition, and long-term strategy.

As market conditions evolve, maintaining an up-to-date watchlist and conducting thorough due diligence on companies making news can help investors ensure their portfolios reflect the latest developments shaping Canada’s investment landscape.
