HPQ Silicon (HPQ) has approved silicon samples from Quebec Innovative Materials (QIMC).

The samples meet the compatibility requirements under the companies’ MOU, allowing them to begin negotiations for a definitive agreement once the material provided can produce a commercial-grade product.

HPQ Silicon is developing silica and silicon products for battery and electric vehicle manufacturers, among other industries. These products include nano/micro spherical powders, nanowires and fumed silica.

Under the existing agreement, Quebec Innovative will supply HPQ with silica materials for testing its GEN3 PUREVAP Quartz Reduction Reactor.

The GEN3 Reactor seeks to transform quartz into high-purity silicon through the continuous operation of a plasma arc furnace under vacuum. The process promises reduced costs and carbon emissions compared to traditional silicon extraction from quartz.

Silicon is a key strategic material for renewable energy and the decarbonization of the economy.

HPQ is in the midst of process refinements as it works toward planning and developing its first commercial-scale plant.

“A future definitive agreement between QIMC and HPQ would be mutually beneficial for both companies’ pursuit of a green economy,” stated Raymond Wladichuk, Quebec Innovative’s CEO. “We would be able to dramatically reduce our carbon footprint as we benefit from a local Quebec supply chain without compromising on quality.”

Quebec Innovative Materials, formerly Quebec Silica Resources, is a mineral exploration and development company with a diversified natural resource portfolio, including high-grade silica, hydrogen and helium properties.

Quebec Innovative Materials (QIMC) is up by 25 per cent, trading at $0.075 per share as of 10:40 am EST.
