Water Ways Technologies (WWT) has signed two cotton drip projects in Uzbekistan totalling C$6.7 million.

Over the past several years, flood irrigation has caused numerous environmental problems in Uzbekistan. Water Ways believes, said the company, that drip irrigation for cotton is part of the Uzbek government’s national plan for water and soil conservation.

These new projects are repeat orders from a recurring customer who ordered a $4 million system in 2021.

For the first, a $2.86 million project in the Surkhandarya province of Uzbekistan, Water Ways will construct four water reservoirs and four complete head controls to service a 990-hectare cotton field. The agreement includes $102,000 in service and consulting fees.

The second project, located in the Tashkent province, is worth approximately $3.84 million and includes $313,000 in service and consulting fees.

Water Ways will construct five reservoirs and five complete head controls to service the project’s automated drip irrigation technology for a 1,200-hectare cotton field.

Each head control consists of a pumping system, filtration, pressure management units, fertigation, and a cloud-based automation system which will activate and operate the entire system.

Water Ways expects to finish construction on the projects in the third quarter of 2022, and the systems will begin operations in the next cotton cultivation season.

The company will assist its customer with the agronomic and technical aspects of the project, implementing agro-technical practices to improve the yield and output of the farm.

Water Ways is currently negotiating additional similar agreements in Uzbekistan which it hopes to sign in the coming weeks in the field of smart cotton irrigation.

“Our long-term goal is to bring cutting-edge Israeli irrigation and other agro-tech solutions to the world,” said Water Ways chairman and CEO Ohad Haber.

Water Ways Technologies, through its subsidiaries, is a global provider of Israeli-based agriculture technology, providing water irrigation solutions to agricultural producers.

Its irrigation projects include vineyards, cotton fields, apple and orange orchards, blueberries, medical cannabis, fresh produce cooling rooms, and more, in over 15 countries.

Shares in Water Ways Technologies (WWT) are up 11.84 per cent, trading at $0.425 per share as of 9:40 am EST.
