QNX, a BlackBerry (TSX:BB) subsidiary, will work alongside Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) to expedite the building and testing of vehicle software in the cloud.

The partnership will see QNX’s software development platform 8.0 included on Microsoft Azure, offering developers a proven cloud-based system to create automotive and Internet of Things applications.

The companies will now focus on expanding QNX’s presence on Azure to include the QNX Hypervisor and the QNX Cabin, the latter a reference architecture that allows original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to develop hardware-agnostic digital cockpits in the cloud.

BlackBerry returned to positive cash flow in Q3 2025, following decelerating net losses of US$734 million in fiscal 2023 and US$130 million in fiscal 2024, suggesting the company is on a path to shareholder value creation.

Leadership insights

“A cloud-first, shift-left strategy is becoming a requirement for any competitive development infrastructure,” John Wall, chief operating officer and head of product, engineering and services at QNX, said in a statement. “Together with Microsoft, we are looking at innovative ways to bring Microsoft Azure AI in to support cutting-edge technology early in the development cycle. This approach accelerates development timelines and minimizes risks, allowing automakers to leverage the scale and development velocity inherent to the cloud. Together, we’re paving the way for the next generation of connected and autonomous vehicles.”

“This collaboration bolsters our commitment to empower the automotive industry with cutting-edge technology to accelerate innovation,” added Dayan Rodriguez, corporate vice president of manufacturing and mobility at Microsoft. “By combining the strengths of Microsoft Azure and QNX, we’re enabling OEMs to deliver on the promise of the software-defined vehicle.”
