TSX and Nasdaq rise as chip stocks recover. Bitcoin breaks above resistance, 3M raises outlook, Paramount slips, and oil remains elevated.

Markets are starting the week on firmer footing as technology and semiconductor stocks rebound from last week’s sharp selloff. The TSX and TSX Venture Index are both higher, while U.S. markets are also advancing, led by the Nasdaq as investors return to AI and chip names. Despite concerns about renewed tariffs and ongoing geopolitical tensions, risk appetite has improved as investors position for another busy earnings season.

Commodities are sending mixed signals. Oil prices remain elevated amid war jitters and concerns about Middle East supply disruptions, though crude has eased slightly from recent highs. Copper is moving sharply higher on renewed optimism around industrial demand, while gold is little changed. Bitcoin continues to build momentum, rising above key resistance levels and benefiting from a second consecutive week of ETF inflows.
